Good to hear you have AA too. It's rare and hard to find nowadays. Which one do you think is scarier?

Ghostwatch. AA was when I first seen it, but only up to when the orbs appeared. After that, the special effects were horrible and that little girl.. Jesus Christ! I hated how she acted. I kept telling myself, "They said this was real?" At the end, I seen the actors that played the aliens, and I was pissed. How could they use Stanton Friedman on this, I asked myself. Then, when I started to get online and hunt info down on this years later, I realized that this is what brought UPN down to the ground because they lied and wouldn't admit guilt, still playing it off as REAL! Then I heard of 'updates' to the original, but noticed one grave change... no Stanton Friedman. hmmmmmmm... I bet he was pissed being made a fool after giving his two-cents of this being authentic and later finding that the producers hoaxed it.
Ghostwatch is different. Ghosts spook me. Seen too many and I can highly relate to it. Better acting to pull it off, and the real-time effect that was given. I know I would have been part of the mass hysteria it pulled off, unlike AA. I seen UFOs, too, but that lil' girl and orbs threw it off for me. Still good, don't get me wrong, but doesn't give me the same feel as it did during the first half of the reel.

Funny. Your reasons are pretty much a 180 from me. I didn't know until I saw AA that I had a deep rooted fear of aliens. Now I admit it. I think it taps into the fear of being taken away by force by creatures we know nothing about to experience things we can't even guess at. I know the acting is not Oscar worthy, but it's the chilling scenes that get to me. Most specifically
SPOILER WARNING:
The scene where the alien walks past the dining room window, the scene where the camera catches a glimpse of the alien going through the upstairs window, and even the scene where the kid is making his final statement to the camera in the bathroom. I scared myself silly expecting an alien to be behind the shower curtain. There wasn't of course.
END SPOILERS:
I felt the movie also made great use of the guy disappearing after he went outside with the shotgun. Stuff like that is freaky because your head creates all these horrific scenarios of what happened to the guy. Blair Witch did this too when Josh goes missing. Just chilling in my opinion.
On the other hand there's Ghostwatch. I freely admit had I been a 10 year old Jewbo seeing this during it's run in 1992 and thinking it was real, I'd be scarred for life from fear. But since I knew this was fake it didn't do nearly as much. Ghosts don't scare me like aliens. I think it's because I realize ghosts, while supernatural and not of our world, are still people. For the most part people don't scare me unless they're psychos or something. I've seen a few real ghosts in my day and have encounters with one any time I go to my grandma's house. I think it might have something to do with my thoughts and beliefs about the afterlife. I take a rather scientific view of that. But I digress. Had I been a resident of the house Pipes was haunting I'd be out of there in no time. No question, since Pipes was not only a ghost, but also a psycho. But popping lights and swinging apples just doesn't spook me out like "things" walking by the window or taking you away by mind control. But both films are very scary and worth seeing.

I finished my cool double feature DVD. Here is the coverscan I made in case anybody else wants to have a go at one, or even wants a copy from me. It was made by modifying the original Ghostwatch DVD cover. Or for those with an interest in Ghostwatch alone and want the coverscan, here it is, courtesy of my UK friend Dave Tancock. And this one is hosted at putfile.com since it's too big for Imageshack. putfile.com/pic.php?pic=9/24711152777.jpg&s=x4Ave atque vale, "Hail and farewell".
