Tommorow (8/6) me and the wife are driving to Lake Tahoe to catch Journey in concert. I've always dug Journey even though most of their songs are whiny love ballads. I saw them back in '03 when they played a triple bill with REO Speedwagon and Styx, which is my favorite band. Anyhow I'll step back now and await your insults.

I think it's too bad that I can't mention bands I like without being attacked but I'm expected to keep my mouth shut when people bring up death rock and butt metal music. Just different tastes. And the concert kicked ass.

Do Journey still sound the same (the Steve Perry vocals, mainly)? I would have only listend to Styx and Journey, but REO would have been my way of browsing the grounds.

Actually yes. The guy they got that replaced Perry (also named Steve) has the long hair and damn near samn voice. It's actually pretty eerie. Now I just have to be on the lookout for Foreigner. I'd love to see them in concert.

Foreigner tends to play alot in Charlotte and (from what I remember) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Almost, what seems, once a year. And these aren't tribute bands, either.
You are bound to find them near you.

Styx is actually my favorite band. They had a new studio album in 2003 called Cyclorama that was just awesome. One thing I like about them is their support for our troops overseas and one song really hits the nail on the head about what they're going though over there. Also this year they released an album called Big Bang Theory which is cover songs of old classic rock, like I Am the Walrus. But, yes, I do love Mr. Roboto and that whole album even though it was what lead to their eventual breakup in 1984. As is sometimes the case in bands, the lead singer gets a big head and wants to run things their own way, so that album was sort of Dennis DeYoung's (the lead singer at the time) personal project that none of the other members wanted anything to do with. Dennis is now gone doing solo stuff. And the band usually doesn't play Mr. Roboto anymore since it was not their favorite album or song. Occasionally they sing a snippet of it in a bigger montage song but that's solely for the concertgoers. They make it clear that they hate it.

Oh I know that. Unfortunately it's hard to really set emotion in typed words, short of putting up a small smilie. So no biggie. And butt rock is a term my wife actually made up. I think what that is is "music" that's just more noise and flatulence than actual melody. I think rap qualifies as butt rock. I don't care for death metal because it's just gutteral screaming and grunting. I can't understand a damn word those guys are wailing.
