Any recommendations or horror flicks

Hi all

I am fairly new to horror films I have seen some such as The Excorcist, Halloween and others. but want to check out some more.

Can I can get some recommendations new and old please?

I think you'll get loads of good recommendations. My favorites ones are Event Horizon, Session 9, and Angel Heart. But there are many that are required viewing, like Hellraiser, High Tension, Phantasm, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, Jaws, The Shining, etc. We could literally compile a list of 100 or so titles.

If you're a newb to the scene, I highly recommend you to get your feet soaked with some Asian flix. My faves:

The Eye (you can now find this as an American release at Blockbuster)
Ringu Series (The Ring)
Battle Royale (I) (not horror per se, but great violent kiddie war)
The Guinea Pig Series
Ju-On (Grudge)
Story of Ricki-Oh
Men Behind the Sun (I)

Some other good foreign horror:

Tenebre
Suspiria
Zombi
Gates of Hell
The Beyond
Nekromantik I&II
Schramm
Der Todesking
Sante Sangre (not really horror, but a trip!)

American:

Mordum
The Changling
Burnt Offerings
The Omen Series
Any of David Cronenberg's early works
Candyman (I)
The Thing (Carpenter)
Romero's Dead Movies

I can go on and on and on and.....................................

But, if you are looking for American/British Horror... the 70's reigned.

Well, I agree with all of those but Texas Chainsaw Massacre which I hated.
You may want to add Basketcase, The Deadly Spawn and Night of the Creep in there as well. If your Feeling like your in for some sterner stuff, see Funeral Laughs list.

I hope you're talking about the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I've never seen it and refuse to. I'm a loyalist to the original 1973 Tobe Hooper film.

Oh man, I'm going to break the good Dr's heart here.
But yeah, I hate the tobe hooper original, most overatted piece of flotsam I ever saw....I liked the 2003 version better. I guess thats not the proper answer but sadly, its the truth.
And for further blaspheme, I'm not fond of the exorcist either! .....you still with me doc?

You may be a bit suprised, Weir.
I dug the original's psychological nerve twitch, but the remake (with me going in close-minded) took me off-guard. Well-done, the family is larger (think of 2000 Maniacs), and a small history to Leatherface. I wouldn't mind seeing the upcoming Prequel.

Speaking of 2000 Maniacs:
Another one to add to your list, BIGWHOPPER--
HG Lewis films (his gore flix).
These can be Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, Color Me Blood Red, and Gruesome Twosome. Cheese gore in all its glory.

One of the best movies of all times, okay 2 of them, in my opinion weren't mentioned...

Return Of The Living Dead and Re-Animator.
